This past autumn, the Outreach Vietnam Service Club from Singapore American School embarked on their annual trip to Saigon. A change in their original itinerary led them to a fortunate connection with ALA Secretary, Dr. Lucy Nguyen. She arranged for the students to visit Thien An School, a journey that proved to be an unforgettable experience.

Upon arrival, the Singaporean students – Kyle Han, Lucius Tjiputra, Sean Lee, Heechan Lee, Avijit Saha, Kaitlyn Tran, Brooklyn Chow, Emma Liu, and Amane Toyama – were immediately met with enthusiasm by the Thien An students. During their visit, they led students in engaging English lessons designed for interactive learning.

After a second visit to the school, the Singaporean students discovered that teaching at Thien An went beyond simple knowledge transfer; it blossomed into genuine connections and shared cultural moments.

Experiences like this highlight the value of human connection and cultural exchange. These visits demonstrate their immense benefit and encourage other groups to consider similar enriching engagements with the 30 centers and schools our organization supports.
